Proof in Every Layer
Clarity, kept.
Lumen is PROTEPLEX headlight protection film: a clear urethane layer that adds a replaceable surface over exposed lighting lenses. Stone chips at highway speed.
The fine sandblasting of grit and road debris. The slow UV haze that can turn clear polycarbonate cloudy and yellow.
Lumen adds a protective layer over the lens, designed to help reduce wear reaching it. It is the same sacrificial idea behind Shield, shaped for one of the vehicle's most exposed exterior surfaces.
Many modern headlight lenses use coated polycarbonate. They are light, complex, and vulnerable.
The factory hard-coat that keeps them clear is thin, and once it is pitted, hazed, or yellowed, restoration results vary with lens condition and coating damage.
Lumen changes that path. The film becomes the surface that meets the road.
Lumen is designed to help reduce exposure to road debris, abrasion, and environmental wear. When the film wears, it is removed and replaced — some wear may be taken by the replaceable film layer.
See how protection film works in plain terms.
Lumen is a multi-layer urethane film, and each layer has a job:
The result is a film designed to help reduce damage from small road debris, yet flexible enough to wrap tightly around the curves, ridges, and packed optics of a modern headlight.
A headlight only works if light passes through it cleanly. Lumen is designed for optical clarity, so Clear Lumen is designed to limit visible interference with normal lamp operation.
The film sits between the lens and the elements.
To be plain about it: Lumen does not make your headlights brighter, and it does not change or improve light output. What it does is help reduce surface wear associated with declining lens clarity.
Lumen's top coat is thermoelastic. Fine swirl marks and light surface scratches — the kind that scatter light and dull a lens — can relax and fade when the film is warmed.
Fine surface marks may become less visible with controlled warmth under approved guidance.
This is a property of the top coat, not a repair for deep cuts or impact damage; those are exactly what the film is sacrificing itself to absorb.
What self-healing does is help the surface keep looking clean and uniform. Read how self-healing film works.
Clear Lumen is designed for retaining a clear, restrained appearance.
It adds a barrier against debris and chemical contact and is designed with environmental stability in mind, while intended to maintain a low-profile appearance.
Smoke Lumen offers a light tint for a darker, more integrated look on the lens — a subtle style choice where local law permits it.
Because lighting is regulated, a smoke finish is a decision to make carefully with your installer. Verify current lighting and tint requirements for your jurisdiction before installation.
Clear is intended for applications prioritizing visible-light transmission.
Headlights sit at the front edge of the car, first to meet everything the road throws up.
Lumen is commonly applied to the main headlight lenses and fog lights — and, where owners want it, to other lit or clear lenses that face forward.
These are the surfaces that may accumulate visible wear over time, and the ones most worth getting under a protective layer early.
Coverage is a decision you make with your installer, based on how and where you actually drive.
Lumen is protection, not magic. It won't undo haze, yellowing, or pitting that is already in the lens — it protects a lens that is still sound.
It is not armor against a serious impact, and it will not make a headlight unbreakable; a hard enough strike can still damage the assembly underneath. It does not brighten your lights or change their output.
Its role is limited to a replaceable surface-protection layer: it takes the everyday wear — the chips, the sandblasting, the UV — that quietly clouds a lens over time.
Setting that expectation honestly is part of the brand.
Installation quality materially affects appearance and performance.
Lumen is applied by trained professionals using vehicle-specific, computer-cut patterns — or hand-cut on the lens — then wrapped over edges where the shape allows, for controlled edge treatment.
Headlights are among the more demanding surfaces to wrap, with tight compound curves and detailed edges.
Proper surface prep, controlled tension, and finished edges are what separate a low-profile finished appearance from one that announces itself.
This is why PROTEPLEX film is intended for professional installation rather than sold as a peel-and-stick kit: the result on the lens depends on the hands that apply it.
Lumen asks very little. Wash it as you would the rest of the vehicle.
Use compatible cleaning products and follow published care guidance. Maintenance requirements depend on use, exposure, and approved care guidance.
Lumen is the lighting layer.
It pairs naturally with Shield paint protection film for painted panels, with Vision ceramic window film for automotive glazing, and with Ceramic coating for compatible coated surfaces.
One brand, one material-focused PROTEPLEX approach across every layer.
Will Lumen make my headlights dimmer? It is designed for optical clarity, so clear Lumen is designed to limit visible-light reduction; actual transmission depends on the film and lamp assembly.
A smoke finish is tinted by design and is a style choice to weigh carefully, and legally, with your installer.
Can Lumen be removed? Yes. Lumen is a reversible layer of protection — a layer designed for professional removal from compatible, sound lenses.
Does it stop my headlights from ever hazing? It is designed to help resist the UV and abrasion that cause hazing and yellowing, taking that wear on the film instead of the lens.
It is designed to help reduce exposure of the lens to abrasion and environmental wear; it does not rebuild one already clouded.
